That is a "generally favorable" rating, which usually means it works without breaking anything. Mark Kermode of The Guardian called the character interplay the source of the film's oomph. Clarisse Loughrey of The Independent appreciated the lack of a multiverse portal, a choice that saves it from the clutter. Jake Wilson of The Age saw a routine production, though. It is a solid B+ for audiences, which is a safe landing for a big-budget action picture.

Blue Beetle cost $104 million to make and pulled in $130.8 million worldwide. That math leaves the studio with a comfortable margin, though the DCEU ledger tells a different story. It remains the lowest-grossing film in that specific universe. Audiences have been kinder than critics, awarding it a 6.6 TMDB user score. The opening weekend drew 39% Hispanic viewers, a demographic signal the studio likely hoped would translate into longevity. It did not, but it did top the charts for one weekend.
