What kind of watch this is
Ant-Man runs 117 minutes of 2015 science fiction, adventure, and action where the size of the problem is inversely proportional to the size of the hero. Peyton Reed directs Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, and Evangeline Lilly through a heist plot that leans on shrinking physics rather than expanding CGI budgets. The tagline promises heroes don’t get any bigger, and the film takes that literally. It is a lighter entry in a heavier genre, built on the simple idea that a man the size of an insect can still commit a major felony. The stakes are global; the costume is small.
What the critics said
Critics generally liked it, though they argued about how much. Rotten Tomatoes reported an 83% approval rating as of June 2026, with an average score of 6.9 out of 10 from October 2021. Metacritic sits at 64 out of 100 as of February 2024, which it labels generally favorable. Justin Chang of Variety called it "a genial diversion." A. O. Scott of The New York Times was less thrilled, describing it as "passable drone work." Some viewers disagreed with the critics, giving it an A on CinemaScore. The split suggests a film that works for the casual viewer but frustrates the purist.
How it did with audiences
The film cost $130 million to make and collected $519 million worldwide. Deadline Hollywood pegged the net profit at $103.9 million after accounting for marketing and talent costs. That calculation placed it 14th on their list of 2015's "Most Valuable Blockbusters." On TMDB, users rate it 7.1 out of 10. For a superhero with a relatively low opening, the margins were solid enough to keep the lights on.
