What kind of watch this is

Jake Schreier directs this 127-minute action film, which gathers seven disillusioned castoffs who have been discarded by the system that created them. They are trapped in a deadly situation that forces them to face the ugly truths of their own histories. The tagline promises a second chance, a generous offer for people who have spent their careers breaking things. It is a messy, high-stakes ensemble piece where trust is a currency no one can afford to spend.

What the critics said

Rotten Tomatoes reports 88% positive reviews from 381 critics as of November 2025. Metacritic lands on 68 out of 100, a score it tags as generally favorable. The consensus notes the film returns to the MCU’s tried-and-true blueprint, with Florence Pugh as the magnetic standout. Bob Mondello of NPR calls it "a decently effective blend of misfit mercenaries and pop psychology." Jake Coyle of the Associated Press adds that the cast works together seamlessly in a way Marvel hasn’t in some time. Robbie Collin of The Daily Telegraph disagreed, finding it "just dollop upon dollop of dourness." The audience, however, seemed less concerned with dourness.

How it did with audiences

The budget hit $180 million, but the worldwide gross landed at $382.4 million. That is one of the lowest totals for the MCU. Rebecca Rubin at Variety noted the film needed an "unachievable" $425 million to break even. She and Brent Lang grouped it with two other 2025 titles as part of a "lousy streak" for the studio. Kevin Feige blamed the low numbers on viewers thinking they had to binge the Disney+ series first. He felt the studio should have clarified that was not required.

What came next for the cast

Florence Pugh stepped into Thunderbolts* after Oppenheimer and Black Widow. She moves next to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Lewis Pullman arrived from Top Gun: Maverick and Bad Times at the El Royale. Remarkably Bright Creatures follows for him. The timeline does not prove causality. It just tracks the path. Credits are a map, not a bill of lading.
