What kind of watch this is
Taika Waititi directs this 119-minute fantasy action comedy, but the real hook is the tagline: "The one is not the only." That simple line reframes the entire mythology. It suggests a universe where power is shared, not hoarded. The film leans into that shift. It is loud, it is bright, and it does not take itself too seriously. You are watching a god who has already walked the path of self-destruction. He is not trying to save the world in a traditional sense. He is trying to save his friends. It is a cosmic adventure that feels more like a therapy session held in space.
What the critics said
The reviews landed in a comfortable middle ground. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 64% as of June 2026, while Metacritic scores it 57 out of 100. That is a mixed verdict, which fits a film that tries to be a sequel and a stand-alone. Variety’s Owen Gleiberman noted the movie "sustains its freshness" despite an awkward start. IndieWire’s David Ehrlich found Waititi’s wackiness welcome but the film’s place in the universe uncertain. The consensus calls it a worthy addition to the MCU.
How it did with audiences
It spent $250 million and banked $761 million worldwide, which in Hollywood terms is a solid return and in any other industry is a respectable profit. The United States took in $343 million, while the United Kingdom contributed $45 million. On TMDB, users rate it 6.4 out of 10. IMDb lists a 6.1/10 score as of February 2026.
