What kind of watch this is
Ted 2 is a 2015 fantasy comedy that asks a court whether a sentient teddy bear can have a baby. Seth MacFarlane directs and voices Ted, while Mark Wahlberg plays John. The film runs 115 minutes and relies on the absurdity of a toy navigating bureaucracy. It is not subtle. The humor leans on shock and the inherent ridiculousness of the premise.
What the critics said
The critical consensus is mixed, to put it gently. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 44% approval rating as of October 2024. Metacritic sits at 48 out of 100 as of August 2025, a score that signals "mixed or average reviews." Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave it a B+, which is a step down from the A- earned by the first film.
James Berardinelli of ReelViews noted that while the story was often boring, he still laughed from time to time. Chris Nashawaty of Entertainment Weekly compared the experience to being trapped in detention with 15-year-old boys. It is funny, until it is not.
How it did with audiences
Ted 2 pulled in $217 million worldwide. That is a solid figure, even if the opening weekend felt like a stumble for a sequel with that pedigree. On TMDB, users give it a 6.3. It is a score that suggests the movie is fine, provided you do not expect it to fix the first one.
What came next for the cast
Wahlberg swapped rom-coms for explosions in Deepwater Horizon and Transformers: The Last Knight. Seyfried bounced between the sequels of Mamma Mia and the prestige drama Mank. MacFarlane pivoted from A Million Ways to Die in the West to the sci-fi series The Orville. The timeline lists what followed. It does not claim this film caused the shift.
