After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt and Jenko when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don't have to just crack the case - they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.

What kind of watch this is
22 Jump Street is a 112-minute crime comedy where two undercover cops try to act like college students. The problem is that they have been in law enforcement for years, so pretending to be immature is the hard part. Phil Lord directs Schmidt and Jenko as they split up, one chasing football glory and the other art school vibes. The movie asks if they can survive the semester without blowing their cover or their friendship. It is a film about two grown men playing dress-up in a world that is already a performance.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes lists an 84% approval rating as of November 2024, while Metacritic sits at 71 out of 100 as of October 2025. That puts it in the "generally favorable" column. Chris Nashawaty of Entertainment Weekly noted the stars' shtick still shoots giddy sparks. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone called it damn funny, sometimes outrageously so. The consensus argues the bromance chemistry improved on the original. It’s a solid sequel, which is a high bar for a movie about cops pretending to be students.

The budget came in at $65 million, a number that made the $331 million worldwide gross look like a serious hit. It pulled in $192 million in the United States alone. TMDB users rate it 6.8 out of 10, while IMDb gives it a 7.0/10 as of March 2026.
