Critics found Eternals ambitious, but not necessarily effective. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 48% approval rating from 416 reviews as of June 2026, with an average score of 5.7/10. Metacritic assigns a weighted average of 52 out of 100 based on 62 critics. The consensus is mixed. Charlotte O’Sullivan of the Evening Standard called the fight sequences "astounding, beautifully paced and crammed with detail." Robert Abele of TheWrap noted "an earnestness to the operatic stakes." It became the first MCU installment classified as "rotten" on Rotten Tomatoes. The film aimed high, but the landing was uneven.
How it did with audiences
The budget was $236 million. The film took in $165 million in the United States and $402 million worldwide. It opened with $162 million globally, a figure that stood as the second-largest Hollywood opening during the pandemic. TMDB users rate it 6.7. For a movie with this much money attached, the numbers are a modest nod.
