Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
Live. Die. Repeat.
Major Bill Cage is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and dropped into combat. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an alpha alien down with him. He awakens back at the beginning of the same day and is forced to fight and die again... and again - as physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop.

What kind of watch this is
Doug Liman directs a 114-minute action sci-fi where Tom Cruise plays a demoted officer trapped in a time loop. He dies, resets, and dies again. The hook is simple: repeat a Tuesday until it stops hurting. Emily Blunt and Brendan Gleeson round out the cast. It plays like a video game level that refuses to let you quit. The frustration is the point.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes reports a 91% approval rating based on 339 reviews, with an average score of 7.5 out of 10. Metacritic sits at 71, which it labels generally favorable. Critics praised the humor, the alien design, and the time-loop premise for staying fresh. Justin Chang of Variety called it "a cleverly crafted and propulsively executed sci-fi thriller." Todd McCarthy of The Hollywood Reporter found the loop "tedious" and the ending "dramatically unconvincing.
