What kind of watch this is
The Matrix Reloaded is a 138-minute action thriller that takes its time. Lana Wachowski directs Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, and Carrie-Anne Moss through a world where Neo can see the code. The hook is scale. The machines are digging toward Zion in 72 hours, so the stakes feel immediate even as the runtime stretches. The pace is deliberate, which might feel slow if you just want explosions. It works best if you are ready for the logic behind the punches.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes lists a 73% Tomatometer score as of November 2022, while Metacritic sits at 62. That places it in the "generally favorable" camp, a category that often contains films that try very hard. Roger Ebert gave it three and a half stars, calling it an immensely skillful sci-fi adventure. Tony Toscano of Talking Pictures agreed, noting the writing is so crisp it crackles on the screen. Not everyone shared that enthusiasm. Marc Salov of The Austin Chronicle found the religious overtones bogged down the forward motion, a valid point for anyone who prefers their concepts uncluttered.
