What kind of watch this is

The Incredible Hulk is a 2008 science fiction action film directed by Louis Leterrier. It runs 114 minutes, a duration that feels like a long wait for the inevitable explosion. The premise is simple: a scientist hunts for an antidote to his own rage, only to be dragged back into a world that wants to weaponize him. It is a movie about the danger of trying to fix a monster. The tagline, "You'll like him when he's angry," does the heavy lifting here.

What the critics said

Rotten Tomatoes sits at 68% with an average of 6.4/10, while Metacritic lands on 61. Critics generally found it better than the 2003 film, a low bar that this one clears. Todd McCarthy of Variety called it "perfectly solid summer action fare." Roger Ebert disagreed, finding it "noisy and mindless." It is competent enough for a Friday night, which is exactly what you want from a monster movie.

How it did with audiences

The Incredible Hulk spent $150 million to make and took in $263 million worldwide. That is a profit, technically, though it barely edged past the 2003 predecessor that Marvel had written off as a commercial failure. Audiences rated it 6.3 on TMDB and 6.6 on IMDb as of March 2026. It opened to $55.4 million, beating industry forecasts and satisfying the studios who had lowered their expectations. A solid return, provided you do the math carefully.

What came next for the cast

Before 2008, Edward Norton was the guy from Fight Club, and Liv Tyler was the elf who saved Middle-earth. Tim Roth had just finished Pulp Fiction, and William Hurt was deep in A.I. That is a lot of heavy lifting for one mid-credits cameo.

Afterward, the paths split. Norton drifted into Wes Anderson’s pastries and Rian Johnson’s mysteries. Tyler kept popping up in superhero films, a genre she once defined by leaving it. Roth returned to Tarantino. Hurt found his way back into the Marvel universe, playing a villain in two of its biggest hits. The Hulk did not cause this. It merely sat in the middle of a very busy decade for all of them.
