Roger Ebert gave it 3.5 stars, noting it feels like a more mature Animal House. Carina Chocano called it "supercute" despite its smut. Not everyone was sold. Stephen Farber argued it lacks the depth of Dazed and Confused. The movie is a solid, if loud, take on high school awkwardness.

Superbad cost $17.5–20 million to make. It took in US$121.5 million in the United States and Canada, plus US$48.4 million elsewhere, for a worldwide total of US$169.9 million. That gap between the price tag and the payout is where the film made its mark. It was the highest domestic grossing high school comedy at the time, a record it held until 2012. On TMDB, users rate it 7.3 out of 10. High school comedies rarely survive the transition from joke to legacy. This one did.
What came next for the cast
Jonah Hill went from Click to Django Unchained. Michael Cera jumped from Arrested Development to Barbie. Bill Hader moved from You, Me and Dupree to It Chapter Two. The credits list the changes. They do not prove the cause. The timeline simply records where the paths led after 2007.
