When cops Schmidt and Jenko join the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover as high school students. They trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, and set out to shut down a dangerous drug ring. But, as time goes on, Schmidt and Jenko discover that high school is nothing like it was just a few years earlier -- and, what's more, they must again confront the teenage terror and anxiety they thought they had left behind.

Phil Lord directs a 109-minute action comedy where two cop buddies infiltrate a high school to bust a drug ring. The hook is simple: adults who look like teenagers navigating a social landscape that has shifted under their feet. Rotten Tomatoes holds an 85% approval rating based on 224 reviews. Metacritic scores it 69, a generally favorable reception. Richard Roeper of The Chicago-Sun Times gave it a B+, admitting he didn’t think we needed it, but found it actually kind of funny. David Hynes of WhatCulture later ranked the script third among the best since 2010, praising its economy of means. The consensus calls it a smart, affectionate satire with a satisfying bite. Audiences polled by CinemaScore graded it a B.

$55 million in, $202 million out. In Hollywood, that is the difference between a solid quarter and a career-defining hit. Of that total, $138 million came from the United States, suggesting the domestic crowd did the heavy lifting.
