The critical consensus notes that deeply creepy visuals and a standout Sosie Bacon elevate the film's exploration of trauma. It is the rare feature that satisfyingly expands on a short. Not everyone agreed. Marisa Mirabal of IndieWire called it a shadow of other stories, while Tasha Robinson of Polygon found the jump-scares borderline laughable, though she admitted they remain startling.
How it did with audiences
It cost $17 million and took in $217 million worldwide. That is a healthy margin, though Deadline Hollywood’s calculation of an $180 million net profit does the real heavy lifting. It landed tenth on their 2022 list of most valuable blockbusters. On TMDB, users rate it 6.7 out of 10.

Sosie Bacon moved from 13 Reasons Why to Mare of Easttown, then stepped into Cold Storage. Kyle Gallner shifted from The Walking Dead and American Sniper to Smile 2 and Strange Darling.
