What kind of watch this is
Dan Trachtenberg’s 2022 thriller flips the Predator franchise on its head. Naru, a Comanche warrior played by Amber Midthunder, is the one doing the hunting. The film runs 100 minutes and treats its protagonist as a lethal force rather than a victim. It is a tight, violent action picture where the human character outsmarts the sci-fi monster. The tension comes from watching a hunter realize her prey has teeth. It is a competent entry in a franchise that usually asks the audience to sympathize with the alien.

Critics largely agreed this was a return to form. Rotten Tomatoes reported a 93% Tomatometer score as of November 2022. Metacritic assigned a 71/100 Metascore in October 2025, labeling the reception generally favorable. The consensus highlights a rare action thriller that balances adrenaline with character work. David Fear of Rolling Stone called it a "long-awaited masterpiece." Andrew Webster of The Verge appreciated "how patient it is." Benjamin Lee of The Guardian offered a more mixed view, giving it 3 stars but noting it feels genuinely new.
How it did with audiences
$65 million budget, no box office figures. That is a streaming bet, not a theatrical one. TMDB users rate it 7.6 out of 10. Reelgood called it the most-watched program on any platform during the week of August 12, 2022. Whip Media noted it was the most-watched movie in the U.S. from August 5 to 7. 20th Century Studios confirmed it was the most-watched premiere on Hulu in the U.S., Star internationally, and Star+ in Latin America. The numbers suggest everyone finished the same thing at the same time.
