What kind of watch this is
Marshals is a 2026 drama where Kayce Dutton trades the Yellowstone Ranch for an elite U.S. Marshal unit. He brings his Navy SEAL training and cowboy instincts to Montana, applying a specific kind of range justice to the region’s violent landscape. The series balances his duty as the last line of defense against the psychological toll of that service. It is 11 hours of watching a man who has seen too much try to hold a line. You get 16 episodes across 2 seasons. The hook is simple: what happens when the frontier’s old rules meet federal law? It is a tight, high-stakes look at the cost of protecting a place that does not want saving.
What the critics said
Critics didn’t exactly fall in love. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 45% approval rating from 20 reviews, averaging 6.0 out of 10. Their consensus calls it a "ham-fisted trek" that lacks the narrative spark of its predecessors. Metacritic scores it 57 out of 100, landing squarely in the "mixed or average" zone. Nick Schager of The Daily Beast found the action sequences "CBS-grade lackluster." Variety saw a law enforcement procedural with only a "passing family resemblance" to the rest of the franchise. The first episode pulled in 9.52 million viewers.
