Brandon Yu of The New York Times found it "charming, funny and artfully punchy." Toussaint Egan of IGN noted the "flashy choreography and anime-inflected verve" in the fights. Both compared it to the Spider-Verse films. Critics praised the animation, music, and voice acting. Some noted the plot relies on comedy to avoid feeling overwrought. The art does the heavy lifting.
Awards
The film secured 6 major honors, including Best Animated Feature at the Critics' Choice, Golden Globe, and Academy Awards. The song "Golden" swept Best Original Song across the same ceremonies, marking the first K-pop track to win a Grammy or an Oscar.
