Colin Trevorrow directs a 147-minute adventure where dinosaurs roam freely alongside humans. The premise is simple: nature has taken back its throne, and the human race is now the endangered species. Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Laura Dern navigate a world where the food chain has been violently inverted. It is less a story about surviving monsters and more about accepting that we are no longer on top. The tagline calls it the conclusion of the Jurassic era. That feels like a heavy burden for a movie that mostly asks if you are ready to stop being the boss.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes sits at 29% as of November 2022, a figure that leaves little room for optimism. Metacritic lands on 38 out of 100 as of July 2025, which it files under generally unfavorable. It is the lowest-rated film in the series on both sites. Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune called it the franchise's weakest entry. David Fear of Rolling Stone described it as a contractual obligation at best. The franchise has lumbered a long way down from its classic start.
How it did with audiences
Budgeted at $165 million, the film pulled in $377 million in the United States and $962 million worldwide. That total pushed it past the $1.0 billion mark, making it the 50th film to reach that threshold. Deadline Hollywood calculated a net profit of $229.7 million, while Forbes pegged Universal’s theatrical net profit at $34.6 million. The math works out differently depending on whose calculator you trust. On TMDB, users rate it 6.6 out of 10.

Chris Pratt kept the Marvel momentum going with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, then pivoted toward The Electric State. Bryce Dallas Howard stepped into Argylle.
