What kind of watch this is
Chad Stahelski directs a 122-minute film where the rules of engagement are written in blood and debt. John Wick goes to Rome because he promised he would, not because he wants to. The movie treats the assassin’s code with the gravity of a religious text and the pacing of a heist. It is less about why he fights and more about how he fights. If you enjoy the idea that a man can kill his way through a city by strictly following a rulebook, this is your movie. The tagline is a warning, not a promise.
What the critics said
Critics found the sequel more expansive than the original, though perhaps less intimate. Rotten Tomatoes shows an 89% approval rating as of August 2024. Metacritic assigns a 75, which it classifies as generally favorable. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone called it "pure cinema." Stephanie Zacharek of Time argued it answers the classic pulp question of whether humans are worth saving, usually with a "no." The consensus suggests the film doubles down on the action that made the first one work. It is a bigger machine with the same engine.
