What kind of watch this is
Grimm drops folklore straight into a modern police procedural. Portland homicide detective Nick Burkhardt learns he is a Grimm, a lineage of profilers who see the mythical beasts hiding in human skin. The 6-season run, totaling 83 hours, leans into that collision. It treats fairy tales as literal, dangerous neighbors. David Giuntoli anchors the mix. The tone is surprisingly grounded despite the werewolves and witches. It plays like a cop show where the suspects actually bite.
What the critics said
The first season landed in the middle, which is rarely a compliment. Rotten Tomatoes gave it 54% based on 37 reviews, while Metacritic scored it 55 out of 100. Tim Goodman of The Hollywood Reporter saw "chills and humor" in the mix. Mary McNamara of the Los Angeles Times found the crime spin "a little too pat." Critics later warmed up to the series as it expanded its mythology. The second season climbed to 75 on Metacritic and 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Mike Hale noted the cast is "remarkably appealing.
How it did with audiences
TMDB users rate it 8.3 out of 10. That is a solid score for a show that left the theater circuits and moved to living rooms. NBC reported that Grimm gained 49% in adults 18–49, moving from a 2.00 to a 2.98 rating between live and 7-day delayed viewing. It was the top new drama on the major networks for that specific jump. The series averaged about 6.4 million U.S. viewers during its first season. Nielsen later noted a 1.14 point increase from live to 3-day results, a record gain for the show. Viewers watched.
What came next for the cast
Russell Hornsby spent the years before 2011 in crowd-pleasers like Meet the Parents and Get Rich or Die Tryin’. The credits that followed lean harder: Fences, Creed II, and The Hate U Give. Sasha Roiz moved from disaster films like The Day After Tomorrow to series like 9-1-1 and Chicago Med. The film did not cause the pivot. It merely marked the point where their paths bent toward different kinds of recognition.
