It is less about the town of Wellsbury and more about the secrets that traveled with them.

Rotten Tomatoes reported a 68% approval rating for the first season based on 31 reviews. Metacritic assigned a weighted average of 62 out of 100, a figure it labels generally favorable. The consensus is mixed but polite. If the show cannot quite pull off its tonal ambitions, it is at least entertaining to watch it try.
The second season dropped to 60% on Rotten Tomatoes. Metacritic rose to 71 out of 100. Critics noted the strain on credulity, though fans of the first season ought to enjoy the sudsy outing.
Alan Sepinwall of Rolling Stone gave it 3 out of 5. He argued the show understands that a mom who wants to be your best friend is not especially healthy. That is a useful distinction.

Season 2 later held the top spot on the Netflix Top 10 chart for two consecutive weeks in January 2023. What came next for the cast
Antonia Gentry moved from Candy Jar to Time Cut, a shift that defies simple narrative. Jennifer Robertson jumped from Schitt’s Creek and Twitches to Reminders of Him. Brianne Howey went from Horrible Bosses 2 and Time Trap to Dear Santa and Kinda Pregnant. The credits list what appeared, not why. That distinction matters.
