What kind of watch this is
Frozen II runs 103 minutes and follows Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf deep into a mysterious forest. The tagline warns that the past is not what it seems. Jennifer Lee directs the adventure. It treats its fantasy elements with a bit more weight, asking where the kingdom’s magic actually came from. The snowman is still there, which helps keep the stakes grounded.
What the critics said
Critics landed on a generally positive note, though the scores suggest a ceiling. Rotten Tomatoes reported a 77% approval rating based on 336 reviews as of June 2022. Metacritic assigned a 64/100 Metascore as of November 2024, indicating generally favorable reception. The consensus notes it cannot quite recapture the predecessor's showstopping feel, yet remains a dazzling adventure.
Manohla Dargis of The New York Times called it a "pink world of adventure and aspirational uplift." Nell Minow of RogerEbert.com appreciated its frank depiction of issues for all ages. Dissent focused on the narrative. John Anderson of The Wall Street Journal found it uninnovative with flawed plotting. The story’s complexity drew mixed reactions.
How it did with audiences
It cost $150 million and took $1.1 billion worldwide, a ratio that makes the accounting department smile and the rest of us shrug. In the United States, it pulled in $399 million. On TMDB, users rate it 7.2 out of 10.
What came next for the cast
Kristen Bell moved from Scream 4 and Bad Moms to The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, Queenpins, and Nobody Wants This. Idina Menzel returned to the screen in Wicked, Cinderella, and Disenchanted, a circle completing neatly. Josh Gad jumped from Beauty and the Beast and Murder on the Orient Express to Artemis Fowl and Avenue 5. Evan Rachel Wood shifted from Westworld to Weird: The Al Yankovic Story and Kajillionaire. The timeline does not prove Frozen II caused these shifts. It just marks where the credits changed hands.
