Fifteen-year-old Drake and Josh are schoolmates, but not close friends. Drake views Josh as weird and a bit of a goof. So, imagine Drake's shock when he finds out that this "goof" is about to become his new step-brother and roommate when his mother marries Josh's father. A spin off of The Amanda Show.

Dan Schneider’s 2004 comedy runs on a simple engine: two boys who are not close friends suddenly have to share a bedroom. Drake views Josh as weird and a bit of a goof. The friction is the point. There is no slow burn here, just the immediate, daily collision of two teenagers who were never meant to be in the same zip code, let alone the same house. It is a sitcom built entirely on the premise that proximity is a punishment.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic offer no scores, so the critics remain silent. The audience, however, was loud. Nickelodeon’s series premiere drew 3.2 million viewers, the network’s highest-rated debut in nearly 10 years. It ranked among the top 10 most-watched cable shows through 2006, averaging 3 million viewers per episode. It was the top-rated live-action series for kids aged 2 to 11. Ratings peaked in the final season.
How it did with audiences
No box office figures exist for a show that lived on network television, so the ledger stays empty. The only number that matters is 8.4, the TMDB user score. That is high enough to suggest the audience liked it enough to rate it, which is a fine thing for a sitcom to achieve.
What came next for the cast
Drake Bell went from Jerry Maguire to Yours, Mine & Ours. The credits cannot say the show caused that pivot. They can only mark the line. Josh Peck had Spun before, and Oppenheimer after. A leap from Spun to a Nolan film is a specific kind of career arc. Miranda Cosgrove moved from The School of Rock to iCarly, then back to iCarly. Sometimes the only way out is the same door.
