Modern Family (2009)
One big (straight, gay, multi-cultural, traditional) happy family.
The Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan is a wonderfully large and blended family. They give us an honest and often hilarious look into the sometimes warm, sometimes twisted, embrace of the modern family.

What kind of watch this is
Modern Family runs on a simple trick: it pretends to be a documentary about three tangled families in Los Angeles. The camera watches, the people confess, and the edits cut straight to the punchline. It is 11 seasons long, totaling 250 episodes. That comes to 96 hours of screen time, which is roughly the length of a long vacation you did not take. The tone is dry enough to survive the subtitles.
How it did with audiences
On TMDB, users rate it 7.9 out of 10. Without box office figures, the story is all in the living room. In its first season, it became the sixth-highest rated scripted show in America. The second season, aided by a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, topped Wednesday ratings during premiere week. It rose 34% among adults 18 to 49 from the prior year. By the 2010–2011 season, it was the highest rated scripted show in that demographic. Its success in ratings has also led it to being credited for reviving sitcoms. A New York Times study later mapped its fans to liberal urban clusters.
Awards
Modern Family collected 24 awards, including 22 Primetime Emmys. Ty Burrell won the Supporting Actor prize in 2011 and 2014. Julie Bowen took home the Supporting Actress award in 2011 and 2012. Eric Stonestreet secured the Supporting Actor trophy in 2010 and 2012. Steven Levitan won for writing in 2011 and directing in 2012. Gail Mancuso handled directing in 2013 and 2014. Michael Spiller directed in 2011. The show also snagged the 2012 Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.
What came next for the cast
Sofía Vergara moved from Four Brothers to The Smurfs. Ty Burrell went from Black Hawk Down to Muppets Most Wanted. Ed O'Neill stepped in from Wayne's World and out to Entourage. Julie Bowen left Lost for Horrible Bosses. The credits track the shift. They do not prove the cause. Sometimes a role just opens a door.
