Burge, it blends comedy, drama, mystery, and sci-fi across 8 seasons and 178 episodes. The show tracks how their unique magical powers evolve while they try to keep normal lives. You are looking at 125 hours of content. That is a lot of coffee.
What the critics said
Most critics liked the early seasons. Metacritic gave the first season a 61 out of 100. Ken Tucker of Entertainment Weekly called it "Charlie's Angels with a Ouija board." Karyn L. Barr later labeled it a "crafty cult classic," noting the balance of humor and drama. The reviews stayed positive, though some found the later tones grimmer.
How it did with audiences
The first episode, "Something Wicca This Way Comes," pulled in 7.72 million viewers, setting a record for The WB’s highest-rated debut. That jump helped lift the whole network’s numbers, a shift TV Guide’s Mark Schwed noted was way up from the previous year. For three seasons, it sat as the second-highest rated series on The WB, trailing only 7th Heaven. By season 5, it claimed the title of the highest-rated Sunday night program in the network’s history. On TMDB, users rate it 8.2 out of 10. The WB was small, but Charmed made it look big.
What came next for the cast
Holly Marie Combs arrived with credits in Born on the Fourth of July and New York Stories. She left with Pretty Little Liars. Alyssa Milano stepped in from Commando and Fear. She stepped out into New Year's Eve, Hall Pass, and Insatiable. The list does not prove the show launched the careers. It just records the next stop. One is a jump; the other is a shuffle.
