Captain America: Civil War (2016)
United we stand. Divided we fall.
Following the events of Age of Ultron, the collective governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion amongst the Avengers, causing two factions to side with Iron Man or Captain America, which causes an epic battle between former allies.

What kind of watch this is
Civil War is a 2016 superhero action film that treats its heroes like politicians. It runs 147 minutes, which is long enough for a policy debate and a full-scale brawl. The premise is simple: the world wants to regulate superhumans, and the team splits over who gets the leash. One side wants rules. The other wants freedom. They end up punching each other. It is for anyone who has watched a committee meeting devolve into a fistfight. The tagline says they fall when divided. The film shows exactly how hard that fall is.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes reports a 90% approval rating, with an average of 7.8/10 across 430 reviews. Metacritic assigns 75/100, labeling the reception generally favorable. The consensus notes the film boasts a decidedly non-cartoonish plot. Variety’s Justin Chang called it the most mature and substantive picture from the MCU yet. The New York Daily News’ Stephen Whitty, however, found it overstuffed to bursting.
How it did with audiences
It cost $250 million and took $1.2 billion worldwide, a number that makes the accounting department smile and the studio executives nod. In the U.S. and Canada, it pulled in $408 million. TMDB users give it a 7.5 out of 10. Audiences apparently decided that a superhero fighting a superhero is worth the ticket price.
