What kind of watch this is

Guillermo del Toro directs this 2002 fantasy horror. It runs 117 minutes. Blade teams up with a vampire council to stop the Reapers, creatures that feed on the very beings he is fighting. The tagline promises it is faster, sharper, and deadlier. Wesley Snipes leads the cast alongside Kris Kristofferson and Ron Perlman. You will either love the visual texture or find it a bit much.

What the critics said

The reception is lukewarm, to borrow a culinary term that probably annoys the chef. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 57% as of October 2023, with an average user rating of 6/10 from May 2022. Metacritic lands on 52 out of 100, a score that suggests mixed feelings. Roger Ebert saw a "brilliant vomitorium of viscera," a description that sounds like a warning label rather than a recommendation. James Berardinelli called it mindless entertainment for the undiscriminating. The consensus notes the plot was left on the cutting room floor, which explains why the bones feel so exposed.

How it did with audiences

Blade II cost $54 million and took in $155 million worldwide, with $82 million coming from the United States. On TMDB, users rate it 6.6 out of 10. Audiences largely agreed with the critics, giving it a 6.7/10 on IMDb as of July 2026.

What came next for the cast

Ron Perlman moved from Alien Resurrection and Enemy at the Gates into a run of big-budget hits, including Drive and Pacific Rim. That is a noticeable shift in scale. He was already established, but the genre breadth widened. Meanwhile, Wesley Snipes stepped from Blade and Demolition Man into The Expendables 3 and later Deadpool & Wolverine. The gap between those entries is wide, and the credits cannot say this film caused that specific leap. They only map the path. The data suggests momentum, not causality.
