What kind of watch this is
Adam Reed built a world where espionage is less about saving the planet and more about saving face. Sterling Archer, voiced by H. Jon Benjamin, is a superspy whose emotional intelligence matches his aim: nonexistent. He is surrounded by a team that includes Charlotte Stratton and Pam Poovey, both of whom have watched him be an idiot for 14 seasons and 140 episodes. The show is animated, which allows the characters to be rude in ways that would end a real friendship. It runs 22 minutes per episode, totaling 51 hours of screen time. That is a long time to listen to a man who cannot handle feedback, but the banter keeps it watchable.
What the critics said
Archer drew strong marks from the critics. Rotten Tomatometer sits at 91% and Metacritic lands on 79, both as of January 2026. The praise centers on voice acting and writing. Tim Goodman of The Hollywood Reporter called the lead’s delivery "note-perfect for comedy." Ken Tucker of Entertainment Weekly highlighted the "vividly distinct characters." Not everyone stayed happy for long. By the eighth season, some reviewers argued the writing had become predictable, sacrificing narrative continuity and humor for visual appeal.
How it did with audiences
The box office data is missing, so we cannot talk money. We can, however, talk numbers that exist. On TMDB, users rate it 7.9 out of 10. That is a solid score. Or perhaps they just liked watching a hitman argue with a physicist.
What came next for the cast
Judy Greer had played supporting roles in 13 Going on 30 and The Village. After Archer, she appeared in Jurassic World and the Ant-Man films. Chris Parnell had worked in Anchorman and Jingle All the Way. He later joined 21 Jump Street, The Dictator, and Anchorman 2. The credits suggest momentum, but they cannot prove causation. Careers move in strange patterns. Sometimes a small part opens a door you did not know existed.
