What kind of watch this is
Guy Ritchie directs this 119-minute thriller about a quiet security guard who reveals lethal precision during a heist. Jason Statham plays H. The film builds tension through calculated action rather than chaotic shouting. It is a tight, mechanical piece of filmmaking. The plot revolves around settling a specific score. Ritchie handles the pacing with surgical intent. Statham’s performance is understated and cold. The narrative stays focused on consequence. It is a straightforward look at revenge mechanics.
What the critics said
Critics found the film middling. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 67% positive reviews out of 256, with an average rating of 6.2/10 as of November 2022. Metacritic, leaning on 38 critics, assigns a 57/100 Metascore, a score it categorizes as mixed or average. Peter Debruge of Variety noted the director was "classing up his signature technique," a compliment that hints at what was previously lacking. Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times disagreed, calling the result "tired, uninspired and meandering." The audience, however, seemed less picky than the press. CinemaScore polled viewers gave it an A−, and PostTrak reported 77% gave it a positive score. The split is typical for an action vehicle that refuses to pick a single lane.
How it did with audiences
$40 million in, $104 million out. That is a healthy return for a heist movie that never once drops a penny. In the U.S. and Canada, it pulled in $27.5 million, while the rest of the world added $76.5 million. Men made up 60% of the overall audience, with 72% being over the age of 25. On TMDB, users rate it 7.6 out of 10. The math works, even if the protagonist’s moral compass does not.
What came next for the cast
Jason Statham traded the Fast franchise for The Beekeeper and Meg 2. Josh Hartnett moved from Pearl Harbor to Oppenheimer. Holt McCallany shifted from Fight Club to Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. Rocci Williams went from Angel Has Fallen to The Beekeeper. The credits do not prove Wrath of Man caused these shifts. They just record what followed.
