What kind of watch this is
The Doorman Clause bans superpowered actors from Hollywood, a rule that makes the entire setting feel like a bureaucratic fever dream. Simon Williams has powers he cannot use, and Trevor Slattery has a career he cannot sustain. Their friendship is the engine, not the action. At 35 minutes per episode across 8 episodes, the series commits 5 hours to its premise. It is a comedy about the specific terror of being famous for the wrong reasons. The spotlight reveals everything, including the cracks in the facade.
What the critics said
Critics seem to have found the heart where the action failed to impress. Rotten Tomatoes reports 91% positive reviews from 112 critics, while Metacritic assigns a weighted average of 75 out of 100 based on 31 reviews. That places it in the "generally favorable" category, which is polite enough for a superhero show. The consensus praises Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who turns in a sly performance alongside Ben Kingsley. The drama wins out over the stakes. It is a low-stakes superhero fare with high-hearted personal drama, which is a fair trade if you are tired of explosions.
How it did with audiences
FlixPatrol noted that Wonder Man hit No. 1 on Disney+ in the United States. Disney+ announced that Wonder Man ranked No. 1 in 69 countries during its release week. Nielsen Media Research tracked 618 million minutes of viewing from January 26 to February 1. Luminate reported 1.7 billion minutes of watch time and 6.5 million views in the first 12 weeks. By the end of the first half of 2026, those figures climbed to 1.9 billion minutes and 7 million views. On TMDB, users rate it 7.1 out of 10. It did not need a box office to prove it was watched.
