What kind of watch this is
Jonathan Tropper built a world where the 19th century feels like a live wire. Ah Sahm is a prodigy forced into a tong hierarchy that eats its own. The violence is visceral, not stylized, and the dialogue hits with the weight of a billiard ball. You are committing to 28 hours of this. It is a long haul through a city that does not forgive mistakes.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes gives season 1 a 79% approval rating from 24 reviews. The average score is 7.6/10. The consensus notes the show often buckles under its lofty ambitions, yet its devil-may-care attitude provides thrilling energy. Metacritic lands at 68 out of 100 from 9 critics, a generally favorable score. Rolling Stone named it one of the best new shows of 2019. Seasons 2 and 3 hold a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Ambition is a heavy thing to carry.
How it did with audiences
Warrior did not have a box office run to track, so the numbers live in the ratings instead. On TMDB, users give it a score of 8. That is a high mark for a film that refuses to be easy. It asks you to sit with the silence after the bell.
