What kind of watch this is
Greg Daniels builds a digital afterlife that feels less like paradise and more like a high-end hotel lobby where the Wi-Fi is the soul. The hook is simple: a dead man is stuck in a rented server, managed by a customer service rep. It is a comedy that treats the concept of death as a bureaucratic error rather than a tragedy. You spend 15 hours navigating a world where resurrection is a subscription service and love is a data transfer. The humor lands because the stakes are absurdly real. It is a sharp look at how technology might flatten humanity into a user experience.
What the critics said
Critics enjoyed the afterlife more than the living. Season 1 earned 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, an average of 6.9/10 from 56 reviews, and a Metacritic score of 67. The consensus notes "witty writing" despite "tonal overload." Season 2 hit 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 15 reviews, averaging 7.3/10, and a Metacritic 72. Even a "truncated installment" works. Season 3 returned to 88% on Rotten Tomatoes with 18 reviews, averaging 7.3/10, and a Metacritic 65. The satire becomes "more human." Consistent praise.
How it did with audiences
Upload is a 7.8 on TMDB. That is the number. No box office figures exist in the data, so the money column stays empty. The budget is also unknown. We have a score, but no proof of how many people watched it. It is a quiet metric in a loud market.
