What kind of watch this is
Michael Bay directs a 165-minute spectacle where an ancient robot menace targets Earth while a shadowy human group tries to control history. Mark Wahlberg plays Cade Yeager, who helps Optimus Prime and the Autobots rise to meet this challenge. The film is loud, fast, and unapologetic about its scale. It does not whisper; it detonates. If you need a break from subtlety, this is the volume knob turned all the way up.
What the critics said
The reviews are not subtle. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 18% as of January 2026, with an average rating of 4/10. Metacritic lands on 32 out of 100 as of July 2025, a score it files under generally unfavorable. Critics agreed on the noise and disagreed on the fun. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone called it "the worst and most worthless Transformers movie yet." A. O. Scott of The New York Times noted the story is "scaffolding for the action," which is wrecked in a thunderous shower of metal. Variety called it "a splendidly patriotic film, if you happen to be Chinese." That is a verdict, not a review.
How it did with audiences
The budget was $210 million. It made $245 million in the United States and $1.1 billion worldwide. That is a lot of money for a movie about robots fighting in cities. On TMDB, users rate it 6 out of 10. The math works, even if the brain does not.
