What kind of watch this is
This City Is Ours is a 2025 crime drama where leaving the life is harder than staying in it. Michael tries to walk away, but the gang pulls him back for answers. With 2 seasons and 16 episodes, you are looking at 15 hours of tense, quiet conversations. That is a lot of time to spend watching people who should be friends slowly stop being friends.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes reports a 93% approval rating from 14 critic reviews. That is a strong showing for a drama about ambition and identity in Liverpool. Anita Singh of The Daily Telegraph gave it five stars, highlighting the performances, particularly Nelson-Joyce’s. Phil Harrison of The Independent echoed the praise, noting the characters’ depth lifts the drama above cliché. Not everyone was so charmed. Dan Einav of The Financial Times called it solid but unspectacular. He did, however, credit the show for making Liverpudlian speech and humor integral to its identity, not just backdrop.
How it did with audiences
TMDB users rate This City Is Ours 7.5 out of 10. The data does not include box office figures or budget details, so the verdict rests on those numbers. A 7.5 is a solid score, suggesting the film found its people without needing a marketing blitz to prove its worth. It is the kind of rating that implies the audience understood what they were watching, even if the industry did not.
