What kind of watch this is
The Walking Dead: World Beyond is a 2020 drama and sci-fi & fantasy series that swaps the gritty survival of its parent series for the sheltered bubble of a college campus. Ten years after the apocalypse, a group of teenagers has never seen the wasteland outside the university walls. Their comfortable existence shatters when a message pulls them into a cross-country journey. The show asks what happens when the first generation born after the end of the world tries to grow up in it. Some will find their heroism; others will find their villainy. It is a 14-hour commitment to watch these kids stumble out of their safe zone and into the chaos they were never prepared to handle.
What the critics said
The reviews landed in the middle, which is a polite way of saying nobody was sure. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 46%, a 4.90 average across 24 reviews. Metacritic is slightly more generous at 48, labeling the show "mixed or average." The consensus argues that strong performances and a new perspective aren't enough to make it stand out in an increasingly crowded franchise. Daniel D'Addario of Variety saw genuine intent in the reinvention, calling it worth checking out. Candice Frederick of TV Guide disagreed, grading it 2 out of 5 stars and finding no fresh ideas or fascinating characters to root for. It is a series that tries hard, which is half the battle.
How it did with audiences
On TMDB, users rate it 7.3 out of 10. That is the number. Box office data is absent, as is a reported budget. So we have a score and nothing else. It is a quiet metric for a loud genre.
