What kind of watch this is

M. Night Shyamalan directs this 94-minute horror film, and the tension builds not through jump scares but through the suffocating comfort of a family dinner. The hook is the tagline itself: no one loves you like your grandparents. That affection becomes the weapon. The film relies on the specific dread of a closed room where the people you trust most are hiding something vast. It is a study in patience, where the quiet moments carry more weight than any loud noise. If you can handle the silence, the ending will rearrange your understanding of the whole week.

What the critics said

Critics leaned positive, though the numbers show hesitation. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 68% as of January 2025, with an average rating of 5.9/10 from October 2021. Metacritic lands on 55 out of 100 as of January 2026, a score it files under mixed or average. Scott Mendelson of Forbes called it a "deliciously creepy and funny little triumph." Not everyone felt the warmth. Mark Kermode in The Observer asked if it was a horror film or a comedy, concluding only an "endurance test" adequately describes the shenanigans.

What came next for the cast

Peter McRobbie arrived with a resume that included Spider-Man 2 and Brokeback Mountain, then moved to Eileen. Ed Oxenbould bounced from Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day to Better Watch Out. Deanna Dunagan moved from Unforgettable to Stillwater. The credits list what followed, not what caused it. Sometimes a film is just a door that happens to open.
