What kind of watch this is
The Sex Lives of College Girls is a 2021 comedy-drama that treats the first year of college like a high-stakes survival game. Created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, it tracks four freshmen at the fictional Essex College in Vermont. The series runs 30 episodes across 3 seasons, totaling about 14 hours of viewing. It leans into the awkwardness of adulthood, where every social interaction carries the weight of a potential disaster. It is a watch for anyone who remembers how confusing it is to be 18 and suddenly free.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes reported a 97% approval rating for the first season, with an average score of 7.6 out of 10 from 30 reviews. Metacritic assigned a weighted average of 72, labeling the reception "generally favorable." The consensus called it a warm-hearted romp. Saloni Gajjar of The A.V. Club noted the show tackles teen freedom with funny, truthful weight. Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter found it warm and gooey, even if not novel. The second season held strong with a 93% approval rating and an 83 Metacritic score. The third season dropped to a 33% approval rating. Taylor Gates of Collider praised the writing and performances, giving it 8 out of 10.
How it did with audiences
The series didn't chase a box office miracle, so we look at the numbers that actually track viewer sentiment. On TMDB, users rate it 7.2 out of 10. That is a solid score for a show about young adults navigating the high-wire act of modern romance. It suggests the script landed where it aimed, even if the studio never reported a single ticket sale.
