Critics treated the series with cautious optimism, then watched the numbers climb. Rotten Tomatoes started at 61% for the first season, based on 106 reviews, before rising to 75% by the third. Metacritic tracked a similar arc, moving from 61 to 65. The consensus shifted from "flashy, but somewhat frivolous" to an "addictive guilty pleasure." Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times noted it lacks the poetry of The Newsroom, calling it more like the solid but underachieving Sports Night. The ratings tell the story: it got better, even if the critics kept their hands on the brakes.

TMDB users rate it 7.7 out of 10. TVision data shows panel members viewed the series 5.03 times as often as the average Apple TV+ original. It started as the second-most watched show on the platform, behind Ted Lasso. Then it jumped the queue.
