David E. Kelley’s 2022 series keeps the courtroom drama tight by putting the attorney in a moving vehicle. Mickey Haller works from the back of his Lincoln Navigator, turning a commute into a trial. The setup is specific enough to stick, but the real hook is the stakes he carries. He is recovering from addiction, chasing custody of his daughter, and navigating a messy legal landscape. It runs 33 hours across 4 seasons. That is a long ride, but the car never stops moving.

The reception improved as the series went on. Season 1 drew an 80% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average score of 6.5 out of 10. The consensus noted that David E. Kelley’s adaptation relied on quirk to cover its lack of novelty. Metacritic gave it 62 out of 100. By Season 2, the Tomatometer jumped to 91%, though the average score dipped to 5.8. Metacritic scored it 59. Season 3 hit a 100% approval rating with a 6.9 average, and Metacritic rose to 68. Season 4 also reached 100% approval, pushing the Metacritic score to 76.
How it did with audiences
TMDB users rate it 7.7 out of 10. Without box office numbers to lean on, the metric is pure engagement. The series quickly climbed to No. 2 on Netflix’s weekly charts. In its first full week, it became the platform’s most-watched English-language series globally, racking up over 108 million viewing hours. That total was more than three times the second-place show. From May 8 to June 5, 2022, the tally reached 260.53 million hours. Critics generally praised the show’s performances.
What came next for the cast
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo moved from Murder on the Orient Express and The Magnificent Seven to Jurassic World Rebirth. Angus Sampson went from Mad Max: Fury Road to Insidious: The Red Door. The credits show a shift, not a cause. One man chased dinosaurs, the other chased ghosts.
