Life’s good for deliveryman Doug Heffernan, until his newly widowed father-in-law, Arthur, moves in with him and his wife Carrie. Doug is no longer the king of his domain, and instead of having a big screen television in his recently renovated basement, he now has a crazy old man.

Clint Morris of FilmThreat saw it differently, praising James as "one of the funniest guys to grace the TV tube since Bill Cosby." The final season fared better, earning an 85% "fresh" score. Metacritic settles on 55 out of 100, labeling the series mixed or average. It never quite became a critical darling, but it bowed out with dignity as an unassuming sitcom worth having a beer with.
