What kind of watch this is
Andrew Davis directs this 1993 thriller about a man running from the law to prove his innocence. It runs 131 minutes and leans heavily on the friction between two stubborn men. Harrison Ford plays Richard Kimble, who is out to find the real killer. Tommy Lee Jones plays Samuel Gerard, who is out to catch him. The tagline promises a chase, and the film delivers it. It is less about explosions and more about the slow grind of a man being hunted. If you like a story where the hero is also the suspect, this is the one.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes holds a 96% Tomatometer score as of August 2024. Metacritic assigns it a 87/100 Metascore as of July 2025. The consensus calls it "taut and efficient." Soraya Roberts of The Atlantic later labeled it the best of a genre that no longer exists. Geoff Andrew of Time Out saw a glossy, formula chase movie. He found the action sequences extravagant. He noted Ford falls short on the grief.
How it did with audiences
It cost $44 million and pulled in $369 million worldwide. That is a clean return. In the US, it took $184 million. Audiences clearly liked the chase. On TMDB, users rate it 7.5 out of 10. IMDb has it at 7.8 out of 10, a weighted average as of March 2026. The numbers are solid.
What came next for the cast
Harrison Ford returned to Star Wars in 2015. Tommy Lee Jones moved from JFK to No Country for Old Men. Joe Pantoliano went from The Goonies to The Matrix. Jeroen Krabbé appeared in Ocean’s Twelve. These credits list what followed, not a direct line from this film to those roles.
