What kind of watch this is

The Florida Project is a 2017 drama directed by Sean Baker, running 112 minutes. It follows Moonee, a six-year-old played by Brooklynn Prince, as she navigates a summer of wild imagination. Her friends are a ragtag crew, and the adults around them, including Bria Vinaite’s Halley and Willem Dafoe’s Bobby, are dealing with their own hard times. The film balances childhood wonder with the reality of those struggles. It finds its kingdom in the spaces between play and survival.

What the critics said

Critics agreed on the quality, mostly. Rotten Tomatoes holds a 96% approval rating as of November 2024, with an average score of 8.8/10 from 320 reviews. Metacritic gives it a 92/100 Metascore. The site’s consensus calls it a colorfully empathetic look at an underrepresented part of the population. Ann Hornaday of The Washington Post praised Dafoe, noting he brings a levelheaded, unsanctimonious character to life. Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times added that seeing it once is an experience you’ll not soon forget. It later landed on major lists of 21st-century bests, including those from The New York Times and Rolling Stone.

How it did with audiences

The budget was $2 million. It took in $5.9 million in the United States and Canada, plus $5.3 million elsewhere, for a worldwide total of $11.2 million. On TMDB, users rate it 7.4 out of 10. IMDb audiences give it a 7.6/10 weighted average as of March 2026.
