What kind of watch this is
The Fate of the Furious is a 2017 action thriller where Dom’s family loyalty is tested by a mysterious woman. Directed by F. Gary Gray, the film runs 136 minutes. Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, and Dwayne Johnson return as the core crew. The tagline is "Never give up on family," which sets the stakes.
What the critics said
Critics were divided, though the split felt less like conflict and more like exhaustion. Rotten Tomatoes reported a 67% approval rating as of August 2024, alongside a 6.1 average score from October 2021. Metacritic landed on 56 out of 100 in July 2025, a number that suggests "mixed or average" with the politeness of a formal apology. Owen Gleiberman of Variety praised the franchise’s "perpetual kinetic creative energy," noting it gets "outfitted with an even more elaborate fuel-injection system" just when it seems to run out. Not everyone agreed. David Ehrlich of IndieWire called it a "heap of random parts," arguing the film feels like it was thrown together in the hopes that fate might somehow weld them into a roadworthy vehicle.
How it did with audiences
A $250 million budget usually signals panic, but The Fate of the Furious returned $226 million in the United States and $1.2 billion worldwide. That is a ratio that makes accountants smile and critics squint. On TMDB, users rate it 6.8 out of 10.
