The consensus notes strong performances, but a pace that might not convert new fans. Roger Ebert called it a rip-snorting adventure for families, specifically the younger ones who do not insist on continuity. Others saw it as a worthy challenger to the Harry Potter pictures. The dry truth is that it restores some lost luster.
