Critics mostly agreed it was a strong entry. Rotten Tomatoes reports an 85% Tomatometer score as of June 2026, with an average rating of 7.7/10. Metacritic sits at 72/100, indicating generally favorable reviews based on 68 critics. Jason Mottram of The National called it "one of the darkest and most compelling comic-book movies of the modern era". Not everyone was sold. Adam Nayman of The Ringer found the final act underwhelming, noting it echoed Joker too closely. The dark tone and long runtime drew mixed responses, though the lead performances were widely praised.
How it did with audiences
The Batman cost $200 million and took in $369 million in North America, followed by $771 million worldwide. Deadline Hollywood calculated a net profit of $177 million, placing it seventh on their list of 2022's most valuable blockbusters. On TMDB, users rate it 7.7 out of 10.
