Trunks returns from the future to train with Goku and Vegeta. However, it disappears without warning. Then the mysterious Fu bursts in, telling them that Trunks has been imprisoned in the Prison Planet, a mysterious complex in an unknown place in the universes. The group seeks the dragon balls to free Trunks, but an endless battle awaits them! Will Goku and the others rescue Trunks and escape the Prison Planet?

Super Dragon Ball Heroes is a 2018 animated action series where a villain named Fu kidnaps Trunks and locks him in a prison planet. Goku, Vegeta, and the rest of the cast spend 54 episodes fighting their way through this complex to get him back. It runs about 7 hours total, which is roughly the time it takes to forget why you started. It is not subtle, but it does not try to be.
What the critics said
Critics did not find a unified front. Comicbook.com noted that initial reactions from the fan base were mixed, with comparisons to fan-fiction swinging in both directions. Screen Rant called a specific Vegeta transformation "one of Dragon Ball's worst ideas," contrasting it with the better-regarded Majin Vegeta arc. Marcel Green offered a sharper take, writing that the series is "exactly what the harshest critics think all of Dragon Ball is." The heavy focus on flashy powerups without narrative depth drew significant criticism. Animation in the 'Meteor Mission' saga was also flagged as inferior to Dragon Ball Super. A dry consensus: the spectacle arrived, but the story did not.
