What kind of watch this is
Frank Miller directs this 102-minute film, which returns to the ink-black world of Sin City. The premise is simple: the city’s most dangerous people finally collide. Jessica Alba plays Nancy, Bruce Willis returns as Hartigan, and Mickey Rourke is Marv. It is an action crime thriller that looks less like a movie and more like a comic book page that learned to bleed. The tone is unapologetically hard-boiled. It is for fans who want the violence to feel like a drawing.
What the critics said
Critics found the sequel less sharp than the original. Rotten Tomatoes shows a 43% score as of November 2024, while Metacritic sits at 46 out of 100 as of October 2025. The consensus is that the visual style remains, but the impact has dulled. Justin Chang of Variety noted the film leaves you checking your watch every 10 minutes. Alonso Duralde of The Wrap called the violence tedious.
How it did with audiences
It cost $65 million and took in $14 million in the United States, with a worldwide total of $39 million. In the math of Hollywood, that gap counts as a loss, and the trade press agreed it was a major box office failure. On TMDB, users rate it 6.4 out of 10. The numbers did not flinch.
What came next for the cast
Bruce Willis arrived with the weight of Pulp Fiction and The Sixth Sense, and left for Glass and Death Wish. Josh Brolin stepped out of No Country for Old Men and into Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Jessica Alba traded Fantastic Four for Mechanic: Resurrection. Mickey Rourke went from Iron Man 2 to Ashby. The credits trace these shifts. They do not prove the sequel caused them.
