Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter called it "Big on steroids," praising the tone and performances. Not everyone agreed. Ignatiy Vishnevetsky of The A.V. Club noted the film is overburdened with backstories and subtexts it cannot fully articulate. It is a fun ride that occasionally runs out of road.

It cost $100 million and grossed $366 million worldwide, a margin that Deadline Hollywood calculated as a $74 million net profit. That is enough to break even, which in superhero accounting counts as a respectable Tuesday. In North America, it took in $140 million, holding the top spot for two weekends before a ghost story pushed it aside. On TMDB, users rate it 7 out of 10.
What came next for the cast
Zachary Levi moved from Thor: Ragnarok to Shazam! Fury of the Gods, a transition that requires little explanation. Mark Strong, fresh from Kingsman: The Secret Service, kept swapping spy work for Disney-adjacent roles like Cruella. Jack Dylan Grazer, who faced Pennywise in It, drifted into We Are Who We Are. The credits show a clear path, though not a cause. It is what it is.
