What kind of watch this is
Steven Knight built a world where sight is the ultimate heresy. The virus didn't just kill people; it deleted the concept of seeing. Centuries later, society has reorganized itself around a total absence of visual input. Metal is divine. Then twins arrive who can actually see. Their father, played by Jason Momoa, has to protect them from a queen who treats their existence as a religious crime. It is 22 hours of tribal politics and medieval tension, stripped of the visual comfort we usually take for granted. It asks you to trust the darkness.
What the critics said
Critics were divided, and the numbers show it. Rotten Tomatoes rated the first season 44%, based on 52 reviews, while Metacritic gave it a 40, indicating generally unfavorable reception. The consensus noted the cast was game, but the narrative was convoluted. Daniel D’Addario of Variety argued the story wasted the cast by dragging itself forward at a lugubrious pace. Ben Travers of IndieWire offered a kinder take, calling it a strange-but-effective blend.
The second season improved, hitting an 83% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It became Apple TV’s most-watched drama. The final season continued that positive trajectory, according to Collider. The ending delivered well-staged action and deeper character work. The journey from grimly convoluted to effective was uneven, but the destination was solid.
How it did with audiences
See has no box office figures in the records. That is not a failure of scale, but a lack of data. The one number that exists is a 8.1 TMDB user score. It sits comfortably in the high range. Viewers seem to have watched it and thought, "Yes, that was good." It is a quiet approval. No money was counted, so the judgment is purely cinematic.
