What kind of watch this is
Scorpion takes the standard procedural format and cranks the intelligence quotient until the logic snaps. Walter O’Brien and his team of geniuses solve crimes that seem impossible because the solutions are, technically, plausible. It runs 65 hours across 4 seasons, a duration that tests your patience for people who talk about algorithms. The dry humor lands in the gaps between the explosions. It is less about the threat and more about how annoying it is to be in a room with someone who sees everything.
What the critics said
Mixed is the word. Rotten Tomatoes gives season one a 42% rating across 48 reviews, averaging 5.1 out of 10. Metacritic lands on 48 out of 100 from 24 reviews, labeling it mixed or average. The consensus calls the show forgettable, citing boring characters and distracting geek-speak. Season two sits at 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on just 5 reviews, with a perfect 10/10 average. The premiere drew 13.83 million viewers. It was Monday's top new series. The geek-speak didn't stop the numbers from climbing.
How it did with audiences
Scorpion aired Monday nights at 10 pm on CBS in the fall of 2014. It landed right after The Big Bang Theory, a strategic choice that paid off. The show became CBS’s highest-rated drama for the 18-49 demographic. Live + 7 numbers hit a 4.5 rating, while Nielsen reported a 3.7. That Monday slot jumped 65% in total audience compared to the year prior. Even after the comedy lead-in ended, it stayed the second-most popular new drama on the network. On TMDB, users rate it 8.2 out of 10. CBS clearly did the math, and the numbers agreed.
