What kind of watch this is
Road House is a 2024 action thriller. Directed by Doug Liman, the film runs 121 minutes. Jake Gyllenhaal plays Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter who takes a bouncer job in the Florida Keys, a paradise that turns out to be less about relaxation and more about who can hit harder. Conor McGregor appears as Knox, a role that feels less like an audition and more like a training session. It is a movie that respects its source material enough to take it outside and show you what happens next.
What the critics said
Metacritic assigns it a 57 out of 100, a score that signals mixed or average reception. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 60% Tomatometer score based on 207 reviews, with an average rating of 5.6 out of 10. The consensus notes the film updates a cult classic by replicating its emphasis on cheesy brawn over narrative brains. Owen Gleiberman of Variety called it "something more uncanny." Christian Zilko of IndieWire praised the lead performances, arguing it moves with the same unselfconscious stupidity that fueled '80s blockbusters. Not everyone shared that affection. Chris Wasser of the Irish Independent gave it two stars, criticizing the story, direction, and fight sequences.
How it did with audiences
On TMDB, users rate it 6.9 out of 10. That is the score of a movie people watched, decided they liked, and then forgot about by the time the credits rolled. No box office figures exist in the data. The audience verdict is mild approval, which is a polite way of saying it was fine.
What came next for the cast
Jake Gyllenhaal moved from Spider-Man: Far From Home and Donnie Darko to In the Grey and The Bride!. Billy Magnussen traded Aladdin and The Big Short for Lilo & Stitch and A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. The credits list these titles. They do not list causality. The timeline is a sequence, not a verdict.
